At Touchpoint, we’re always on the look out for new ideas and nuggets of information that get us thinking, sharing and that inspire action. We were thrilled to hear that Okanagan Regional Library (www.orl.bc.ca) was hosting a book party celebrating the release of Kathy LeMay’s ‘The Generosity Plan’ (www.thegenerosityplan.com).
To say that Kathy is inspirational does not even begin to describe her. Kathy is the founder, president and CEO of Raising Change (www.raisingchange.com) which helps organizations raise capital to advance social change agendas and philanthropic individuals with social action planning worldwide. Kathy, who began her global activism in war-torn Yugoslavia where she worked with women survivors of the siege and rape-genocide camps, has been a social change fundraiser for fifteen years, raising more than $100 million dollars in the fields of women’s human rights, hunger and poverty relief, and movement-building.
Kathy’s message is one of sharing your time, treasure and talent to shape the world. There are countless ways to give back. Philanthropists are not just those that have the resources to write large cheques. We all have the ability to be philanthropists, each in our own way, where we are and with what we have. What a powerful message. Consider the collective impact that we could have in our communities locally and globally if each one of us put our generosity into a plan of action.
Why a plan? Like a business, if you don’t have a plan you won’t know where you’re going or how you’ll get there. Without a plan you can’t measure your results and understand where your successes are. A generosity plan provides clarity and a roadmap for your giving. It allows you to measure your giving and to gauge progress and allows you to make the most impact with your generosity.
We had our first opportunity to hear Kathy LeMay speak at an event in Kelowna held last year. The speaking engagement followed an Influential Women of the Okanagan gathering sponsored by the Women’s Enterprise Centre (WEC) and the BDC. We then took part in the presentation that was hosted by UBC Okanagan (UBCO). Kathy LeMay’s talk was inspirational and provided food for thought as we transitioned from Madhouse Creative to Touchpoint Agency and focused on marketing for social change. We were very excited to learn that she would again be visiting Kelowna and were pleased to be able to be a part of her book launch.
